George Grantham purchased the property in 1907 and the original house was built on the present site. In 1937 "Tieve Tara" was purchased by G Arthur Cooper and remained in the family until 1966. The original house was destroyed by fire in 1962 and a new residence erected. This house was totally destroyed by the bushfire of 1983 just after John and Dawn Wade brought the property.
The current owners, Judith and John Brand acquired the property in October 1995.
Garden Development
The major part of the garden, i.e. the top section, survived the bushfire. However the Azalea Walk was completely destroyed and many of the large trees bordering the creek were lost including a scarlet oak of some renown.
Besides building the existing residences the Wades engaged in extensive landscaping of the former paddock. The bottom lake was installed with its surrounding beds and conifer bed below the cottage was planted. More flowerbeds were installed in the top garden.
The current owners with the assistance of landscape architect Peter McGain have made extensive improvements to the garden. The bottom lake was enhanced and the top lake created enabling the slope to be recontoured.
At the time new features were established, the rose walk and arbour, many new beds including the large perennial bed over the top lake, the fountain and bog garden area and "Treasure Island" a children's playground.
"Tieve Tara" is now a magnificent garden, which combines majestic old trees, many interesting walks, a superb view to Mt Macedon and vast collection of plants and shrubs for all to appreciate.
